മാതൃഭാഷ അഥവാ എൻ്റെ ഭാഷ "മറ്റുള്ള ഭാഷകൾ കേവലം ധാത്രിമാർ മർത്യനു പെറ്റമ്മ തൻ ഭാഷ താൻ" മാതൃഭാഷയെ പറ്റി പറയുമ്പോൾ മലയാളത്തിൻ്റെ മഹാകവി ശ്രീ വള്ളത്തോളിന്റെ ഈ വരികൾ എങ്ങനെ വിസ്മരിക്കാനാവും. ഓരോ മലയാളിക്കും പെറ്റമ്മയാണ് മലയാളഭാഷ. മലയാളഭാഷയ്ക്ക് ഒരു സ്വതന്ത്രഭാഷ എന്ന നിലയിൽ രണ്ടായിരത്തി മുന്നൂറോളം വർഷത്തെ പഴക്കമുണ്ട് എന്ന് പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. ദ്രാവിഡഭാഷാ കുടുംബത്തിൽപ്പെട്ട നമ്മുടെ മലയാളത്തിന് 2013-ൽ ശ്രേഷ്ഠഭാഷാപദവി ലഭിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി.
